Got kids? you may want to move to Kalamazoo

Sat Nov 12, 2005 at 04:03:46 PM PDT

Earlier today on kos there was a discussion about some rich people doing what ever they can to avoid paying too much tax.  Well there is an anonymous group of benefactors from Kalamazoo that has come up with a tax loop-hole I can get behind. This group is offering to pay 65%-100% of the tuition and fees of every single public school child in the city starting with the class of 2006 for no less the 13 years!

While PBS is on life support, Save Public Access

Sat Nov 05, 2005 at 03:25:24 PM PDT

With the ousting of Tomlinson from PBS in the news, I thought it was a good time to revisit a diary I wrote that got barely a glance.  In regards to the investigation of Tomlinson at PBS, I would say the republican/Rovian propaganda machine is several steps ahead of us (as they often are). The appointment Cheryl Halpern as the chair of PBS seems to be secure. As Marthature pointed out with her excellent comment in kos'  diary  "Cheryl Halpern. the new GOP fundraiser Chairperson.  Her mandate is to turn public broadcasting into a Bush-GOP propaganda machine.
Halpern hired former Republican National Committee co-chair Patricia de Stacy Harrison as CPB President. Harrison has brought along her subordinates from the State Department Public Affairs and Public Diplomacy Division.
 They are:
Tom Igsitt, Vice President for Government Affairs; Mike Levy, Vice President of Communications; and Helen Mobley, director of Corporate Communications and Planning.
All three have extensive overseas propaganda experience."

Does anyone else in Manhattan smell that smell?

Thu Oct 27, 2005 at 10:00:48 PM PDT

I just came from midtown east and something smelled sweet acrid and burning. I got home to the upper west side and it still smelled. I just got off the 313 phone in number for issues in New York and they said they were getting calls from all over Manhattan and that the enviromental protection people are out testing. The smell is getting stronger.
Is anyone else up in Manhattan, do you smell it?

I will erase this soon, just checking with the Manhattan community

Public Access Stations added to endangered List

Fri Sep 30, 2005 at 05:04:56 PM PDT

With the new appointment of Cheryl Halpern as the chair of PBS the republicans are going for broke. They want the absolute control of all public airwaves.  Public Access television all across America is under attack by legislation being introduced in both the House of Reps. and the Senate (thank you, John Ensign of Nevada and John McCain of Arizona). The bills are designed to eliminate the source of funding for the public stations and to take away control from the local governments.

How can Bush figure the Redistribution of the Tax Burden from the wealthy to you

Mon Apr 11, 2005 at 01:56:55 PM PDT

This article in The Sunday Times by Edmund L. Andrews is an excellent report on how there are built in hidden measures that can pass the burden of Bush's tax cuts and deficits to the middle class. While Bush stuffs his iron clad tax cuts for the wealthy down our throats, there is lots of room in the tax code to pass the burden to the hard working professional and trades people of this country.

A stylish Protester's Day at the Coronation

Sat Jan 22, 2005 at 02:47:27 PM PDT

The true story below is by Rebecca Howell. It was passed along to me from Cobb's count the vote email list. I contacted the writer, Rebecca to find out if she was on this site and unfortunately she had never even heard of Kos.
I am recruiting her to join the ranks because her writing is so refreshing, humorous and colorful. And most importantly because she brings style and flair to the progressive movement.
Please forgive me for posting a story I haven't personally written, but one that I think deserves a much wider audience then the obscure recount email list.
With Rebecca Howell's permission please enjoy her story below the fold
